Scheduled Taskkiller Application

What this app is:

This application can kill a task (just like task manager) at a specific time. Also, it can launch a shortcut at a specific time. Multiple running .exe's can be selected to all close out at the same time.

Created on, and tested with a 32 bit version of Windows 7. The above screenshot was captured with a 64 bit version of Windows 11.

Why this was created:
An older production machine at work runs 32 bit windows 7, and has a bug where the machine's GUI will freeze at exactly midnight (a bug that will never be fixed). I can shut down the software before midnight strikes, and reopen the software after midnight to avoid having to restart the PC (or at least pick log-off and sign into the computer again). This program does the closing of the required files for me, if I am not at the machine in time, and relaunches it for me as well.

Further information:
You may need to right-click and run as an administrator, not sure as I run it on a computer that has administrator rights naturally. The application launches minimized, as a tray icon (as-in by the clock in the bottom right corner in Windows).

More further information:

Just in case you are for some reason also running Windows 7, and would like to auto boot the application, here's a how-to guide.

Configure Windows 7 Boot Autostart (Elevated & Silent)

To ensure the utility boots with Windows, runs with full Administrator privileges, and stays docked in the system tray without user intervention:

  1. Copy AppScheduler.exe and scheduler_config.json to a permanent local directory (e.g., C:\Tools\AppScheduler\).

  2. Press Windows Key + R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter.

  3. In the right panel, select Create Task...:

    • General tab:

      • Name: AppScheduler Startup

      • Check Run with highest privileges.

      • Configure for: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2.

    • Triggers tab:

      • Click New... -> Set to At log on -> Click OK.

    • Actions tab:

      • Click New... -> Action: Start a program.

      • Program/script: C:\Tools\AppScheduler\AppScheduler.exe

      • Start in: C:\Tools\AppScheduler\

      • Click OK.

    • Conditions tab:

      • Uncheck Start the task only if the computer is on AC power.

    • Settings tab:

      • Uncheck Stop the task if it runs longer than....

  4. Click OK to save the task.
